College of Ecology and Environmental science, located in the eastern campus of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, was combined by five institutes or subjects containing seven departments, e.g. the Department of Grassland Science, Department of Desert Control, Department of Agricultural Resources and Environment, etc. in April, 1999. Now there are five majors for undergraduate education including Grassland Science, Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control, Agricultural Resources and Environment, Land Resources Management, and Resource Environment and Urban-Rural Planning and Management. A new major, Ecological Conservation and Resource Utilization was added in 2005. There are eight master degree programs including Grassland Science, Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control, Ecology, Forage and Animal Germplasm Resources, Plant Nutrition, Pedology, Wildlife Resources Conservation and Utilization, and Land Resources Management; five doctoral programs including Grassland Science, Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control, Pedology, Wildlife Resources Conservation and Utilization, and Forage and Animal Germplasm Resources. Two postdoctoral research stations were set up for Grassland Science and Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control Science.
　　There are seven staff rooms including Grassland Resources Management, Forage and Officinal Plant Utilization, Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control, Plant, Pedology and Plant Nutrition, Land Resources Management, and Resource Environment and Urban-Rural Planning and Management; six laboratories including Grassland Resources, Forage Production, Pedology, Botany, Geographical Information System, and Urban-Rural Planning and Management in the College. The College has set the key laboratory of Grassland Science and Grassland Resources supported by the Ministry of Education of China and Inner Mongolia Government together, the key and opening laboratory of Sand Biological Resources Protection and Cultivation supported by State Forestry Bureau, the key laboratory of Sand Ecosystem and Ecological Engineering and the engineering and technique center of Forage Breeding and Reproduction supported by Inner Mongolia Government, and Inner Mongolia Academe of Grassland Science. Desert Control Institute of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is attached in the College. One practical base for teaching and research, located at Dengkou county of Bayannaoer, was set up in the research center of Forest Science administered by the Chinese Academe of Forest Science; the practical base for teaching, research and production of Chinese and Mongolia medicinal materials was set up in Baotou Minren Medicine Company; and the experimental and practical bases of forages were also set up in the inside and outside of University.
　　Grassland Science was first major set up in China, and recruited undergraduate in 1958, students abroad in 1965, students taught using both Chinese and Mongolia language in 1975, master in 1979, and doctor in 1995, which became the postdoctoral research stations of the secondly grade subject in 2001. The students reached to first-rank course were recruited in 2003. Now the Grassland Science has been the key discipline of the State, Ministry of Agriculture and Inner Mongolia. The major of Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control for desert control was set up firstly in China in 1960, and recruited students from Inner Mongolia region at the same time. This major began to recruit students from Three North region in 1987, and was provided with right of doctor degree. Now it has been the key cultivated discipline of the State, the key discipline of the State Forestry Bureau and Inner Mongolia. Until Sep. 2007, there are 1707 undergraduates, 377 masters including 71 extension master degree students, and 55 doctors in the College. The College had cultivated more than 5000 students whose contribution had improved significantly economical and educational developments of the State and Inner Mongolia.
　　At present, there are 105 teachers, 22 assistant staff and 5 managing staff with 33 professors, 37 associate professors, 28 lectures, and 7 assistant teachers in the College. Among them 44 and 32 teachers had gained doctor and master degrees respectively; one is excellent teacher of the State; one is science pacemaker of the State Talent Project; eleven teachers gained the special allowance from the State Department; one is first-rank and seven are second-rank specialists of 321 Talent Project of Inner Mongolia; six teachers are younger specialists with outstanding contribution in Inner Mongolia; one is Red Flag Lady of Inner Mongolia; four teachers are the excellent returned overseas Chinese scholars of Inner Mongolia; two person-time gained the younger teacher award of the State Education Ministry; eleven teachers are enrolled in the 111 Talent Project of Inner Mongolia; and one is enrolled in the 511 Talent Project of Inner Mongolia.
　　The Collage has come into being special and preponderant subjects in forage breeding, grassland management, desert control, and soil improvement during 50 years. Grassland Science and Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control Science have prominent advantage in subject, region, resource and nation, and also possess important national and international status. The College gained ten Teaching Excellent Award of Inner Mongolia, one Science and Technology Production Award of the State, forty eight Science and Technology Production Award from Province or Ministry, and applies one patent over ten years. Three courses gained the Fine Course of the State in 2007. The Branch Party of College gained the Advanced Communist Party of the High Educational Committee in 2001, 2003 and 2006. There were 21 students who gained the award of Challenge Cup in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th undergraduate competition of Inner Mongolia since 2005.
　　The teachers of College had compiled a series of teaching materials of the State, Facing to 21st century, Region and Mongolia language. The College contributed greatly to cultivating talent, development of subject, the spread of education, and national education. Eleven Professors, such as Jingfeng Yun, Yong Gao, Jianguang Wang, Linhe Wang, and etc, are enrolled for compiling the teaching material of the State over two years.
　　Grassland Science and Water and Soil Conservation and Desertification Control Science have prominent advantage for both academic and applied research. Thirty three projects of the Natural Science Fund of the State, eighteen projects of 863, 973, 948 and Sino-foreign cooperation, and more than 200 projects from province, ministry and the others are presided over by the College, The supported fund total up to 50 millions. Since the strategy of west development is implemented, the College has taken part in construction of local economy and ecology. More than sixty projects for local service in science and technique had been completed by the College, which not only provided science foundation for the local economy and environment protection, but gained greatly social and economical benefits.
